CREDIT BY FRAUD

SENTENCE OF 14 DAYS IMPOSED. A charge of obtaining credit to the amount of £l/10/- by means of a fraud was preferred against a middle-aged man, William Walker, in the Police Court yesterday morning. Sergeant Fox stated that on Friday last accused approached the proprietress of a boarding-house about board, and told her that he had obtained employment in the Railway workshops. He stayed at the house for a time, but finally disappeared without paying. Walker had had previous convictions but had kept clear for some time. Inquiries made by the Police revealed that he had not been offered employment at the workshops. After perusing the conviction list the Magistrate remarked that accused had had nothing against him for twelve years. Sentence of 14 days’ imprisonment was imposed.
