TOUR OF INSPECTION
HON. O. J. HAWKEN AT ASHBURTON. WHEAT AREAS VISITED. (Per United Press Association.) Ashburton, April 5. The Hon. O. J. Hawken arrived here to-day at the invitation of the Mid-Canter-bury Executive of the Farmers’ Union and the A and P. Association to inspect the wheat growing areas of the country. In the morning he inspected the experimental farm and in the afternoon addressed a large meeting of farmers on the wheat question. The speech was much on the lines of the Premier’s recent statements at Timaru and Christchurch, adding that notice of intention to impose duty would be given to Australia within a day or two.
Referring to dairy’ produce, Mr Hawken defended control. The Minister tours the county to-morrow, returning to Wellington in the evening.
