OTAUTAU NOTES

WINTER SHOW. (From Our Correspondent.) The meeting of those interested in the 1927 Winter Show, held on Thursday evening, was /poorly attended. Mr G. H. Hodges presided. The schedule was revised, and it was decided that the needlework section be printed and circulated. The arranging of the school work was left in the hands of Mr Griffiths. . - The appointment of a secretary was leit in the hands of the chairman. It was resolved that the Show be held on Wednesday and Thursday, May 11 and 12. The following judges are to be asked to act:—Dairy produce, Mr A. Beange; baking, preserves, etc., Mrs Millar, Invercargill; fruit, roots and vegetables, grain and seeds, Mr W. Alexander Invercargill; school work, Mr W. A. McCaw, Invercugill; needlework, Mrs Mac Gibbon, Mataura, pets and poultry, Mr C. Cunningham, InverCarg ‘ U ' DENTAL CLINIC.

Members of the committee formed to establish a dental clinic were present at a meeting on Thursday evening, Mr A. A. Liddell occupying the chair. The chairman reported that the Inspector of Dental Hygiene had been met by the members of the committee on his recent visit to Otautau, when the position was fully discussed. The nurse would be available about the middle of March at the earliest, and the end of March at the and it was necessary to have the appointments in the dental room ready, or the services of the nurse might be lost, which would be a calamity as far as Otautau and district were concerned.

Mr J. G. C. Baker was appointed supervisor of the improvements to be carried out. The chairman, secretary and Mt Baker were appointed a sub-committee to arrange the lease with Mr Cole and the Town Board and also the conditions with * regard to the removal of the improvements made. Quotations for the work required were read by the secretary, it being found that £75 was required immediately.—lt was decided to open a subscription list in the local paper, and request donations from residents. It was reported that Nightcaps, Raymond’s Gap and Waikouro schools had intimated their intention of joining in with the scheme. BOWLING. A team from Orepuki Bowling Club journeyed to the township to contest a match for the president’s “stars.” The weather was showery, and the green was consequently heavy. The holders secured a victory by three points, the scores being 22—19. CRICKET. A match between Otautau and Scotts Gap clubs was played on the Recreation ground on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the former. Following are the scores:— Otautau.—H. Aitken b Forde 2; J.
