A revision of bankruptcy legislation, to bring it more into line with present-day requirements, was urged in a remit adopted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce sitting in Wellington. In moving the remit, Mr D. J. McGowan (Wellington), said that thete had been no change in the bankruptcy law in New Zealand since 1882, and in this New Zealand seemed to be the exception of the Empire. A Bill had been drafted, and it was to be hoped that the matter would not be again shelved. The national wastage annually resulting from the Dominion’s inadequate law on bankruptcy must reach very large figures, said Mr McGowan, and any revision of the law that would reduce that loss would be of national benefit.
