WAIRIO SOCIETY. (From Our Correspondent.) Mr Nisbet presided over a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Wairio Athletic Society, which was held at Wairio. Saturday, December 18, was fixed as the date for the second annual sports, this having been approved by the Centre. The following programme was decided on: 100 yards maiden handicap; 75 yards handicap; 135 yards Sheffield handicap (first £7, second £2, third £1) ; 220 yards handicap, half-mile handicap; one mile handicap (first £3 and medal donated by Mr Wallace Murdoch, second £l, third 10/-) ; hop, step and jump; high jump; long jump; single ladies’ race; married ladies’ race; and throwing the cricket ball. It was resolved that nominations close with the secretary (Mr M. Porter) on Tuesday, December 14 at 8 p.m., and handicaps to appear on Friday, December 17. Officials were elected as follows Patron, Mr N. Bates, senr.; president, Mr G. C. Bain; vice-presidents, Messrs J. P. Forde, D. McColl, F. Millar, R. Donnelly; F. Boyle, A. Ballagh, J. Millar, T. Egan, S. J. Collie, and J. Valli, senr.; judges, Messrs J. Millar and A. Ballagh; starter. Mr J. P. Forde; timekeepers, Messrs G. C. Bain and F. Millar; secretary, Mr M. Porter; treasurer, Mr aT. A. Steans : handicapper, Mr W. Murdoch, senr.; protest committee, Messrs G. Bain, S. J. Collie and F. Millar.
