THE WEATHER
FIGURES FOR OCTOBER. The last month of spring, October, which has just closed, proved one of the most un- II seasonable and rough that, has been ex- II perienced for some years. High winds were I general throughout the month, accompanied I on six occasions by slight frost. The total rain- 11 fall for the month was 4.35 inches, which 11 fell over a period of 17 days. The biggest fall was 1.12 inches registered on October 27. Despite the apparently unusually wet II conditions, the rainfall was less than the average, 4.71 inches. A remarkable feature I of the weather was that cold, easterly winds, accompanied by little or no rain, were ex- II perienced until October 15, and after that II date the weather was continually wet and II slightly warmer, the ruling winds being I from the west. The following details of the weather were compiled by Mr L. Lennie:—
