WYND HAU NOTES

ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY. (From Our Correspondent.) A very successful and enjoyable evening was held in the Wyndham Town Hall on Friday evening by the Wyndham and Districts St. Andrew’s Scottish Society. Chief A. Ross presided over a large attendance of members and their friends. In opening the proceedings the Chief expressed his pleasure at seeing such a large attendance present on this occasion and trusted that everyone would thoroughly enjoy the function. The main attraction of the evening was a lecture on “Scotland,” along with many limelight lantern views given by the Rev. R. D. McEwan (Edendale), whose efforts were very interesting and very much appreciated by all present. During the evening the following items were contributed—Vocal duet, Mesdames Gray and Mac Gibbon (Mataura) ; songs by Mrs W. Jones (Dunedin), Messrs R. McDonald (Mataura), D. N. A. Macpherson, and wee Sandy Ross, Mrs Donnelly (Redan) , violin solo; banjo-mandolin duet by Messrs W. and A. Campbell (Wyndham). At a suitable break in the proceedings Hallow e'en was celebrated and the “Dookin for Apples” and the treacled bun competition kept many of the juveniles busily engaged for some considerable time and provided much amusement for the audience. Chieftain N. Ross extended his sincere thanks on behalf of the society to the Rev. McEwan for his very instructive and interesting address, the performers for their much appreciated items, and the ladies for supper. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” then closed a very successful function.
