COAL STRIKE
NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE EXPLOSIVES PLACED IN MINE OUTRAGE IN SOMERSET. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, October 29. The Government has issued regulations increasing the coal allowance to a hundredweight weekly but only obtainable by an order iasued by the municipal authorities in order to ensure a fair distribution. The Trades’ Union Council conferred with the miners’ executive. The latter interviewed Mr Churchill and is waiting on the Prime Minister. A malefactor deposited explosives and detonators at a pithead at Radstock, Somerset. The watchman's vigilance prevented a disaster which would have flooded two mines. Labour unions have ' dispatched an additional 1,000,000 roubles to the British miners and are continuing the collection of subscriptions.—A. and N.Z. TOLICE INVESTIGATING. ALL PITS GUARDED. (Rec. 5.5 pjn J London, October 30. The police are investigating the attempt to blow up the head gear ax two collieries in Somerset, in consequence of which every pit in the district is now guarded. A night watchman found three canisters full of high explosives with fuses attached at the middle pit in the centre of the town of Radstock. One was labelled with the name of another colliery. The Trades Union Council had a conference with the miners and adjourned till next week to enable the miners to consult a delegate conference.
