TENNIS

NORTHERN DISTRICT ASSOCIATION. A meeting of delegates from the clubs in the Northern District w r as held at Balfour on Thursday. The following were present: Messrs Clouston and Johnson, Lumsden, Messrs McPherson and Guyton, Riversdale, Mrs Wilson and Mr C. Carmody, Balfour and the secretary, Miss M. Liddell. Mr J. Clouston occupied the chair. An apology was received from Wendonside for the nonattendance of their delegates. The secretary of the Southland Lawn Tennis Association wrote in reply to a letter requesting the conditions concerning affiliation. It was decided to hold over the matter in the meantime and a letter of thanks be forwarded to the Southland secretary for forwarding particulars. It was decided to ask the various clubs to subscribe the sum of £1 1/- each towards the funds of the association. It was also decided to hold a competition in the district. Mr James Campbell of Lumsden offered a silver cup for competition among the clubs. The offer was accepted, Mr Campbell to be thanked for his generosity. A number of conditions and by-laws were drawn up, concerning the competition copies of which will be sent to the various clubs. It. was decided to hold the cup matches on Saturdays for the first round and the first match to be played on November 6. The matter of postponing a match owing to weather conditions will be left to the home club, which will decide on the morning of the match. The following fixtures have been drawn up for the Campbell Cup competition:— NOVEMBER 6. Rj Teasdale v. Balfour at Riversdale. Lumsden v. Waikaia at Lumsden, Wendonside a bye. NOVEMBER 13. Balfour v. Lumsden at Balfour. Waikaia v. Wendonside at Waikaia. Riversdale a bye. NOVEMBER 20. Wendonside v. Balfour at Wendonside. Ixunsden v. Riversdale at Lumsden. Waikaia a bye. NOVEMBER 27. Balfour v. Waikaia at Balfour. Riversdale v. Wendonside at Riversdale. Tjumsden a bye. DECEMBER 4. Lumsden v. Wendonside at Wendonside. Riversdale v. Waikaia at Waikaia. Balfour a bye.
