WAR MEMORIAL

A KENNINGTON PROPOSAL. (From OuriCorrespondent.) A public meeting was held in the. Hall at Kennington last week to discuss the matter of a memorial to ex-pupils and residents who left the district to do their bit in the Great War. Mr Moncur, who was voted to the chair, explained that the idea started last winter when the Kennington Variety Entertainers had given a series of concerts in Kennington and surrounding districts in aid of the memorial fund and had in hand a sum of £4O which he said was a good start in so worthy an object. The matter was taken up very enthusiastically by those present in the hall, when the following committee was appointed to cany out the erection of a memorial:—Mr William Moncur, chairman; Mr R. J. A. Clarke, secretary and treasurer; Mr W. J. Moncur, assistant secretary; Messrs D. F. Leckie, J. Henderson, James Wyeth, G. Warren, A. Henderson, A. Donald, R. McLew, A. Hain, D. McQueen, A. McLean, John Fox, R. Dustin, B. Dawson, A. Bulling and T. Irving. After considerable discussion the committee decided to erect a memorial arch at the entrance to the school grounds and to canvas the district within the school boundary for the necessary funds. The chairman appointed three subcommittees to go into the matter and to report to the next general meeting which will be held early in November. Donations handed in during the evening .amounted to over £2O, which augurs well for the fulfilment of so worthy an object.
