OHAI METHODISTS

SUCCESSFUL BAZAAR AND CARNIVAL. Under the auspices of the Ohai Methodist Church, a very successful fancy fair and carnival was held in the Ohai Hall on Friday and Saturday last. The hall had been transformed by coloured streamers hung from a bell in the centre of the room, giving quite a maypole appearance. Each stall had been arranged so as to blend in the colour scheme. The decorations were quite a feature and were artistically displayed. The Fair was officially opened on Friday evening by the Rev. S. Bailey, of Invercargill, who v. as introduced by the Rev. H. Dyson. Mr Bailey complimented the ladies upon the magnificent display, the heavily laden stalls and beautiful decorations being a great credit to those concerned. In a few months time he expected to be back again participating in the opening ceremony of the new church. On Friday evening the main attraction was a children’s fancy dress parade. About 30 children participated and the prizes were won in the following order: Miss I. Smith (ballet girl), Miss D. Adcock (sunflower), Miss E. Harding (fairy), Miss W. Harding (flower girl). On Saturday a great spider web was woven over the hall. This was unravelled on Saturday evening amidst much fun and xcitement. The attendance both days must have been a record. On Friday evening the hall was packed but on Saturday evening the people had to come in the hall in relays. There were many and varied sideshows which kept things interesting throughout. The proceeds, which were for the new church building funds, totalled over £2OO, for which the committee thank all who assisted in any capacity to bring about this success. The stallholders were as follows: Drapery and Plain Work, Mesdames Elliott and McMillan; Fancy and Novelty, Mesdames Lamb, Harding and Hen wood. Produce, Mesdames McLean, G. Wilson and Smith. Lolly, Miss E. Dyson, Miss M. Dyson and Mrs Pemberton. Toys and Bran Tub, Mrs Manderson, Misses A. Pope, M. Pemberton. Tea Rooms, Mesdames Mills, Drain, Gates and Dover. Flower Garden, Mrs A. Guttery, General assistants: Misses J. Mills, P. Elliott, G. Howd, G. Raffle, M. Sinclair, F. Sinclair and Mrs Dyson. Side Shows: Messrs A. Guttrey, Dover, Rennie, Sinclair. Music was supplied by Mr and Miss Howd. A wireless concert was very generously arranged by Mr H. Holmes. Mr J. Brooks acted as secretary and Mr M. Lamb as treasurer.
