CRICKET
SOUTHLAND ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The weekly meeting of the Southland Cricket Association was held last evening, Mr J. S. McGrath (president) presiding over the following members:—Messrs A. Driscoll, R. Barnett, N. Poole, H. Shirreffs, A. Hamilton, G. Corbet, E. Cook and P. Gilfedder (secretary). Mr Hamilton reported on the state of the approaches to some of the matting wickets, and it was decided to circularise clubs iXjesiing them to have this matter attended to. It was also decided to write to the Technical College Club asking the club to supply a set of matting for the wicket allotted it. It was decided that the Wednesday competition be one-day matches and that the season open on Wednesday, November 3. The following teams were entered: — Waikiwi, Union, Appleby and Marist. A motion by Mr Corbet, “That no Saturday senior player be, allowed to play in the Wednesday competition” was lost, and an amendment, “That Saturday senior player who has not played in at least two Wednesday matches prior to January 31 be allowed to play in the Wednesday competition after January 31” was carried. Mr Driscoll, on behalf of the Grounds Committee, reported that the state of the grounds at present would not allow of a start being made with senior matches on turf wickets on Saturday. He recommended that the opening games be played on matting wickets. This recommendation subsequently became a resolution and was carried. It was decided that the following wicket rents be imposed during the season:— Seniors—lnvercargill, Marist and Union Clubs, £l5; Bluff and Appleby, £7 10/-; Juniors® £7 10/-. An amendment that Appleby Club pay £3 3/- was lost. The question of umpires for Saturday’s games was left in the hands of Mr Hamilton to arrange.SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. The following fixtures and grounds were approved:— FIRST GRADE. Bluff v. Invercargill, at Biggar street No. 1 wicket. Union v. Appleby, on Queen’s Park No. 2. B. GRADE. Appleby v. Tisbury, at Tisbury. Union v. Waikiwi, at Waikiwi. High School v. Bluff, at Bluff. Invercargill A v. Invercargill B, at Queen’s Park No. 3. THIRD GRADE. Union v. Invercargill, at Queen’s Park No. 1. Marist v. High School A, at Teviot street. High School B v. Woodend, at Biggar street No. 2. Appleby v. Technical College, at Doon street.
