Manuka, Dunedin, November 8. Ruahine, Wellington, November 18. GENERAL NOTES. There were no shipping movements yesterday at the Port. The Willesden discharged a further 400 tons and will not leave until this evening. The West Islip, which was to have left Dunedin for Bluff yesterday, will leave today, arriving to-morrow morning. The Oreti is expected to leave Dunedin for Invercargill and Port Craig to-day. The Huntingdon, with cargo from Liverpool, is expected at Bluff to-morrow. Invercargill cargo is to be transhipped from Port Chalmers. The erstwhile Australian Commonwealth liner Barambah is expected at Sydney shortly under the N.D.L. flag. She is now owned by that company. The Justin (ex Barambah, ex Hobart) was built in 1912 at Flensburg especially for the Australian service of the German-Australian Steam Ship Company. The Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company oil tankers are en route to Wellington. The Liss sailed from Singapore on October 10 for Melbourne and Wellington. Her tonnage is 5,913. The Paludina, 5,881 tons, sailed from Singapore on Friday last for Wellington direct. The Liss is due about December 6, and the Paludina about December 13. The ferry steamer Maori will be docked to-day at Lyttelton for cleaning and painting. She will also have repairs carried out to her bow rudder, which is at present out of order. The vessel will be refloated this evening, and sail on the arrival of the 7.30 train from Christchurch instead of the 6.50 train. If reasonably good weather conditions continue, the Union Company’s old steamer, Monowai, which has been lying in Port Chalmers for a long period, will shortly be towed from Port Chalmers to Gisborne and prepared for sinking at Whareongabna about the end of November. The Monowai will be sunk in a position to form a protective wall behind which scows will be able to load in comparative safety. The result of the breakwater work and the sinking of the hulk, it is anticipated, will be the creation of a fully-protected harbour in which the metal scows can operate. The area enclosed by the wall will be considerable, and the vessels should not be cramped for room. The basin will have a maximum depth of about 25ft, and there will be ample room for swinging the scows. TRANS PACIFIC CARGO STEAMERS.
