Mr H. J. Farrant left for the north by the mid-day train yesterday. Inspector Bird returned to Invercargill from the Lakes District by the afternoon train yesterday. • Mr C. E. Bridges, of the A. and P. Assurance Society, arrived from Wellington by the second express yesterday. Mr T. 0. Fox, who has been appointed engineer to the Timaru Borough Council, left Invercargill ’by the second express yesterday to take up his new duties. Captain Edward Patrick Ogilvy Boyle has been appointed to the staff of his Excellency the Governor-General in place of Major L. P. Haviland, who has resigned. Messrs John Alexander Reid, George Evans and Alfred Percival Walker have been appointed rangers for the Southland Acclimatisation Society, according to a Gazette notice. A Vienna message records the marriage at Florence of Signora Tetrazzini, the famous singer, to Signor Pietro Vernati, has been celebrated. The bride carried a rosary presented to her by the Pope. Nurse Grace Lewis, of the School Hygiene Division, was entertained at the Federal Tearooms on Friday afternoon by members of the Health Department and was presented with a copper kettle by the members. Dr R. Collier, School Medical Officer, made the presentation and wished Miss Lewis happiness and expressed regret at losing her from the Southland division. Mr P. A. de la Perrelle, chairman of the Education Board, and Mr F. G. Stevenson, secretary, also made speeches eulogistic of Nurse Lewis’s work and wished her happiness in the new life she was entering. Mr E. Sinclair, Inspector of Health, replied on behalf of Nurse Lewis.
