MELTING AT ASHBURTON. PHIL O’SHEA INJURED. s ’ (Per United Press Association.) Ashburton* October 25. The fourth annual gala proved most successful from a sport’s point of view, the events held in the Domain, being well contested with good times, before an attendance of 4,000. The pleasure was marred by an accident when P. O’Shea fell after passing the jxxst first in the mile invitation cycling event. He sustained a fracture of the left collarbone with scalp wounds and abrasions to the arm and hand. The principal results were:—loo yards gala cash handicap:—McLennan scr, 1; W. W. Satterthwaite 6 yds, 2; M. O’Connor 7 yds, 3. Won easily by five yards. Time 10 secs. 100 yards amateur:—F. F. McKenzie 6 yds, 1; K. R. Johnston 21 yds 2; A. B. Hayman 4 4 yds, 3. Time 10 1-5 secs. Mile invitation paced scratch cycling. Cash. P. O’Shea 1; F. J. Carey, 2; A. Leatham 3. Won by a wheel. Time 2 mins. 9 secs. Two miles gala wheel race. (Cadi). A. Leatham 50 yds, 1; A. C. Ritchie 85 yds, 2; W. R. WiHmott, 130 yds, 3. Time 4 mins 25 2-5 secs. Won by half a length. Mile and half cycle. Amateur. J. R. L Anson, 120 yds, 1; E. Maindonald 90 yds, 2. Won by half a length. Time, 2 mins 20 secs.
