SHARK SCARE

SURFERS TERRORLSED SYDNEY BEACHES INFESTED BOYS ATTACKED IN RIVER (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Rec. 9.15 p.m.) Sydney, October 25. The exceptional prevalence of sharks so early in the surfing season is causing a scare among surfers. Yesterday at. Maroubra a big shark chased in a group of swimmers and at Cronulla, Bondi and Coogee they paid visits inshore, causing frightened scatters to the shore amid the big crowds whom the unusual heat of the day had attracted to the surf. On the previous Sunday a good-sized shark which approached swimmers was chased and' captured by a surf boat. Five boys were swimming in the Clarence River at Mac Lean, in 5-ft. of water when a shark dashed among them and bit one of the boys, inflicting a nasty wound in the leg requiring several stitches, and following the boy as he scrambled ashore. He managed to evade a second attack.—A. and N.Z.
