SLOWER TRAFFIC

EFFECT OF HORSE VEHICLES. RESTRICTIONS SUGGESTED IN CHICAGO. New York, October 24. Stressing the inevitable disappearance of the horse for purposes of transport in the modern city the Committee of the Association of Commerce in Chicago, which has just completed a survey of the city, recommended the City Council to prohibit all horse-drawn vehicles from a group of important central steete. The Committee said heavy horse-drawn drays were an important factor in the snail-like pace imposed upon vehicles and contribute a substantial part of the traffic congestion on several central streets, although composing an infinitesimal fraction of the 314*,000 vehicles which daily pass through these thoroughfares.— A. and N.Z.
