OTERAMIKA SCHOOL

SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. On Friday evening a concert in aid of the Oteramika School funds was held in the Kapuka Hall which was packed to the doors. The school children, under the tuition of Miss Ross, gave several songs and recitations very pleasingly. Visitors were present from Rimu, Kennington and Invercargill. A glee party and also a dialogue party made up of Mokotua young people and friends from Waituna were rewarded for their efforts by the manner in which their items were received. During the evening the chairman, Mr B. Clearwater, spoke of the loss the school had sustained by the removal of Mr Bryant to the Bluff. Mr Bryant had taken a keen interest in his school and had always done his best in carrying out his duties. The schdlars respected him and would carry with them helpful memories of the years spent under his teaching. Mrs Bryant had also taken quite an interest in the school and had made herself very popular in the district and would be very much missed by her numerous friends. Mr Bryant was called upon to receive from the pupils and friends in Oteramika a handsome china tea set and also an oak clock suitably inscribed. In handing these over the speaker congratulated Mr Bryant on his well earned promotion and wished him success in his career as a teacher. Mr W. H. Birch spoke of the good work which Mr Bryant had done in the distinct apart from his school duties. He had always fund Mr Bryant willing to do his share to help along any worthy cause. Special mention was made of his work in connection with the church, Mr Bryant being a member of the committee, and was capable of taking services when required. Mr Bryant suitably replied and thanked the scholars and friends for their kindness to himself and his wife. It was one of the drawbacks of his profession that one had to move away from friends in order to obtain promotion. However, he would always keep in touch with Oteramika and would be pleased to see any of his pupils ond friends in his new home. The programme was brought to a colse with a vote of thanks to all who had helped to make the evening a success. Supper was handed round after which the floor was cleared for the usual dance.
