MOTOR CAR AND CYCLE FATALITIES.

To the Editor. Sir, —To-day’s paper states that a child was run over in town yesterday by a car, which may yet prove fatal. It is the pace that kdfe nearly every time—and all the time—and this must be stopped. Every, day in the week I see. cars and cycles going through our streets at from 15 to 35 miles an hour—and even more. When we rode or drove horses in days gone by the speed seldom exceeded 10 miles an hour, and the Iqyv should be altered to that limit, as soon as Parliament meets, in every borough in New Zealand. Even then accidents will happen, but not so fatal. Trains and ears running on rails are safer, but not perfect. Life is dearer than death. —I am etc., WILLIAM HANDYSIDE.
