EMPIRE PRODUCERS
MEMORANDUM TO IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. “HOUSEWIFE HOLDS THE KEY ” (Rec. 7.30 pan.) .London, October 14. “The housewife holds the key to the situation, ’ says the Empire Producers Association’s memorandum prepared for submission to the Imperial Conference. It says vigorous advertising of Empire products is needed, but the first appeal must be made to the housewife. Further than that, the advertising should be in the hands of producers. The memorandum in the first place advocates Empire preference, not only in tariffs, but in income tax on Empire investments as compared with foreign, also in materials used in Government and public contracts. Statutory sanction should be given to producers’ organisations to enable them to act comprehensively like the New Zealand Meat Board. The Conference is invited to consider the necessity for fast refrigerated ships in the Australian and New Zealand trade and to give approval to the contemplated Imperial Producers Conference. The Duke of Sutherland is president elect of the Producers Association for 1927. Sun Cable.
