MENAGERIE ESCAPES

PANIC IN FRENCH TOWN. EIGHT LIONS AND TWO TIGERS. London, September 26. The Weekly Despatch’s Paris correspondent states that there was a panic, when eight lions, two tigers, and other animals escaped during a circus performance at Saint Amand. A tiger dashed into a butcher’s shop and ate so heartily that he was easily re-captured. A lion smashed the front of a hatter’s shop and lay down on a pile of hats, while another entered a cafe, causing confusion among the customers and waiters. A woman cashier fainted. The other animals escaped to a wood, where they were eventually recaptured, some being lassoed. —Sun Cable.
