N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.
To the Editor. Sir, —I am pleased to see you advocating public interest in this event. . As you say in your leading article it is a great opportunity to advertise Southland; but I go further and say it is the duty of every individual and institution in Invercargill to assist in the billeting and entertainment of the 200 visitors who will participate in the tournament. The public has ever been anxious for the tournament to be held in Invercargill and now we have got it let us show the rest of New Zealand that our £3OO collection in one week to send our champions to Gisborne was no flash in the pan, but typical of Invercargill and Southland’s prosperity and interest in its own wonderful district. The Southland League arranged for about a dozen northern Members of Parliament to come and see Southland: and here’s their further opportunity to return 200 girls to their homes in various parts of the Dominion to act as advertisers for our district and its unbounded prosperity and hospitality. I expect to see a crowded meeting of patriotic citizens at the meeting in the Town Hall at 7.30 on Friday.—l am etc., H. J. KILBY. President S.L.H.A.
