NAURU PHOSPHATES
AUSTRALIAN INQUIRY ALLEGED BAD FEELING. Melbourne, June 17. In the House of Representatives, Mr Bruce announced the terms of reference of the inquiry to be conducted by Sir Arthur Robinson into the operations of the British Phosphate Commission. Sir Arthur Robinson will be asked to report upon the alleged inharmonious relations between the Australian Phosphate Commissioner and the British and New Zealand Phosphate Commissioners, and between the Australian Commissioner and the executive and staff of the commission; and also to inquire as to the extent to which such relations affected the interests of the commission in general and Australian interests in particular, and the extent to which they contributed towards the decision of the commissioners to transfer the head office of the commission from Australia to New Zealand. He will be asked to report how far the investigations of the Royal Commission support the contention of the British Government that harmony between the commissioners cannot be established as long as the present Australian Commissioner remains in office. Sir Arthur Robinson is enjoined to report as soon as possible. An effort will be made to have the sittings in camera.—A. & N.Z.
