The Southland Clans

BROADLEAF CLAN The above clan met at Cousin Mona Britton’s on Saturday, June 12th, with an attendance of eight Cousins. Cousin Frank Britton was there for part of the time. Cousin Elsie Hazlett and Molly Burn were absent. The four Cousins engaged in making the trousseau set, are getting on very well and it will soon be finished. An enjoyable afternoon tea was Handed i round by Mrs Britton, after which we sewed again till 4.30. The next meeting will be at the home of Cousin Ruth Campbell’s sister. —Cousin Lois Deacon. THE RATA CLAN. The above clan met at Mrs Knowles’ on Saturday, June 12th. The four Cousins ■ were present, Florrie and Emily Horrell, Annie and myself. We started sewing early I in the afternoon and at 3.30 p.m. Mother I handed round afternon tea. i The articles being made at present are pillow-cases, peg bag, nightdress and tea cosy. The next meeting will be held at Mrs Horrell’s. —Cousin Dorothy Knowles. KAMAHI CLAN. The above clan held their meeting at Cousin Gladys Stimpeon’s home on Saturday afternoon. There were nine Cousins present. Afternoon tea was passed round and we spent a very nice afternoon. We spent a very nice time on Friday evening. There were sixty-four visitors present. The Cousins played games between the items. One of the most interesting games was telegrams. We raffled a box of sweets prettily decorated which brought in ten shillings for us. Supper was passed round at nine o’clock. The prizes for the best fancy dresses went , to Cousins Maisie Anderson, Mona Fletcher : and Gwen McGill. Before leaving we gave : three hearty cheers for Mrs and the Misses Godward. We also cheered Mrs Robinson for donating the box of sweets. We sang “Auld Lang Syne” to finish a very enjoyable evening. Our clan is to meet at Cousin Olive Brandford’s home, 28 Dublin Street next week. —Cousin Molly Holland. THE MANUKA CLAN On Saturday, 12th June, the Manuka clan met at Cousin Hazel Boyd’s place. Those present were Cousins Hazel Boyd, Doreen Rushton, Marjory Bomast, Hazel Whytoch and myself. We sewed quite busily till about half-past three and then Mrs Boyd handed round afternoon tea. We had a few musical items which we enjoyed very much. Those absent w r ere Cousins Jean Playfair, Nan Columb, Lily Columb and our new helper Trenna Packer. We meet next Saturday week at Cousin Hazel Boyd’s place. —Cousin Alma Whytoch. LILAC CLAN The Lilac Clan met for the sixth time on Saturday, June 12, at the home of Cousin Winnie Stevenson. Those Cousins present were: Winnie Stevenson, Edna Marshall, Zoe Smith and myself. During the earlier part of the afternoon we sewed and then Mrs Stevenson handed round a very nice afternoon tea. The next meeting will be held at the home of Cousin Zoe Smith on June 19. The members of this clan also intend tn hold an evening, in aid of clan funds, on Friday, June 23, at Cousin Edna Marshall’s home. —Cousin Winnie McQuilkan. THE CLEMATIS CLAN On Saturday, June 12, a meeting of the Clematis Clan was held at “Bonniefieid”; but owing to football matches, hockey matches, exams., and the bad weather, only one brave Cousin attended —Margie Reidie—to whom all honour is due. Of course, Peggy was there, and our Clan leader. We Cousins are carrying out the valuable suggestions for Saturday given to us by Mrs Reidie and mother. —Cousin Annie Playfair.

THE SILVER BIRCH CLAN. The eighth meeting of the Silver Birch. Tree Clan was held at our place on June 12. As the weather was wet some of the Cousins did not attend. There were present, Eileen, Annie and Ella Blondell and myself. After we had been sewing for a while we had afternoon tea. Then the Cousins went home. The next meeting of the Silver Birch Tree Clan will be held at the home of Mrs Blondell on June 19. —Cousin Marjory Smith.
