BIRCHWOOD HUNT

MEET AT PLAINS STATION. Glorious weather prevailed for the meet of the Birchwood Hounds on June 7, at the Plains Station; a clear blue sky and a sharp tingle in the air made an ideal day for followers of the hunt to enjoy the splendid run which Mr A. Macdonald had laid out for them. After the hunt a jumping competition was held in which Mr A. Speight’s Scotty was first, Mr S. King’s Eden Tom second; and Mr A. Macdonald’s Paddy third. Among those following were:—The honorary huntsman, Mr A. Macdonald, on Paddy; the whip, Mr W. North, on Nylotis; the acting-master Mr A. Speight, on Rebuff; and Messrs E. Stewart on Soldiers’ Thought; G. Maher on Redwood, L. Hazlett on Sultana, B. Bradley on Mangapiri, H. Gamble on Myra, C. Cunningham, on Burwood, W. Hotop, on Churchmoney, A. Reid on Mad Major, S. King on Eden Tom, G. Keach on Scotty, G. Beer on Joeo, J. Entwhistle on a bay, C. Mills on Dalmeny. MEET AT REDCLIFFE STATION. When the Birchwood Hounds met at Redcliffe Station on June 9, the weather was all that could be desired and the run had been nicely laid out by Mr A. Speight, who spared no effort to make the day’s hunting the success it was. After the meet the master, Mr C. Gardner, on behalf of the visitors thanked Mr Speight for the use of his country and the very hospitable way in which he had entertained them all, he then called for three cheers. Among those following were:—The honorary huntsman, Mr A. Macdonald on Paddy, the whip, Mr H. Morton, ci. Miss Western, the acting master, Mr A. Speight on Rebuff, and Messrs W. North on Nylotis, J. L. Hazlett on Sultana, B. Bradley on Mangapiri, C. Cunningham on Burwood, E. Stewart on Soldier’s Thought, L. Hardy on Midnight, F. Maher on Redwood and W. Hotop on Churchmoney.
