RAILWAY STRIKE
TROUBLE IN EAST AFRICA. POLICE COMMISSIONER SHOT DEAD. Capetown, April 5. Rigorous military measures have succeeded :n ending the railway strike at Lorengo Marques (Portugese East Africa), after four months. Prisoners, however, are still carried as hostages for the safety of trains, and deportations continue, the strikers being replaced by importations. The climax was reached when the Commissioner of Police, Senor de Sousa, was riddled with bullets. He dined at the Cdrdoza Hotel, and while walking to headquarters two concealed men opened fire and 14 bullets pierced his body.—A. & NJZ.
