ROAD WORKS
METHODS EMPLOYED MR A. J. PATERSON’S VISIT TO INVERCARGILL “NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.” (Special to the Times.) Wellington, March 26. The Wellington City Engineer, Mr A. J. Paterson, returned yesterday morning from a hurried visit to Invercargill, whither he had been sent by the Wellington City Council to afford the Invercargill Borough Council some advice upon its methods of road construction. Mr Paterson stated yesterds* that the Southern people had really nothing to worry about. The roads were similar to many laid in Wellington with a black base and the “Topeka” mix top, and were being laid in good style and looked as though they were likely to turn out well. The material used was good, and as long as they adhered to the proved specification and laid the mix on a sound foundation at the right temperature they could not get very far astray. It seems that some of the members of the council had doubts about the method employed and wished to be reassured that it was all right. Mr T. O. Fox, formerly engineer for the Miramar Borough, and later on the staff of the City Engineer, is now borough engineer at Invercargill.
