OVERSEAS MIGRATION

ACCUSATION AGAINST CANADA. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, March 25. Taking exception to the recent assertion that Canada w r as favouring alien not British immigration, the Department of Immigration and Colonisation has issued a statement which says, “It has never been true overseas that alien immigration equalled British immigration. The States of Canada for years past have secured more immigrants from Britain, with one possible exception, than Australia (and usually more than Australia), South Africa and New Zealand combined. Further this, Australia gets comparatively few immigrants from Britain except those whose passages are paid wholly or in part.”—A. and N.Z.
