FARMERS’ UNION
THE TAPANUI BRANCH
A meeting of the Tapanui branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the Town Hall on Saturday evening last. Mr. E. Arnold, chairman of the local branch presided, and there was a fair attendance of members. Correspondence regarding the charge for the use of pens for stock at the railway station was read and members expressed satisfaction at the reply received from the Railway Board. The chairman reported the desire of Mr. R. B. Tennent, of the Agricultural Department, to have top-dressing experimental plots in the district, and the branch decided to give every facility to Mr Tennent. The provincial secretary wrote stating that Dr. Fisher, Professor of Economics at Otago University, would deliver a lecture at Tapanui on Tuesday, February 23, and asked the branch to make every effort to secure a large attendance. Members were enthusiastic over the matter, and hoped that it would be the forerunner of more lectures by educational experts.
