RACING TIPS

CHARGES AGAINST NEWSPAPERS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, October 24. The police have awakened to sudden activity in connection with the steadily-in-creasing publication in the newspapers of racing tipsters’ advertisements. They laid forty-six informations under the Betting Act against a number of daily and weekly papers; also a number against the tipsters. The hearing of the charges against the newspapers was adjourned to November, while nine tipsters were fined sums ranging from £1 to £lO on charges of causing the advertisements to be published.
