CATHOLIC BAZAAR

GORE CONVENT BUILDING APPEAL. The months of preparation on the part of those who have interested themselves in the movement to raise funds for the building of a new convent at Gore culminated in the opening in the Town Hall last evening of a bazaar which, because of the many attractions it presents, promises to be more than ordinarily successful. To have secured such an attractive array of articles of all descriptions as those on the various stalls last evening, the ladies and others who have assisted to organise the bazaar must have been very keenly interested in the object for which they were working. Both the hall and the stalls were artistically decorated and presented a very pleasing appearance. The generous manner in which the public met the appeals of the workers must have been very gratifying to the organisers, and promises well for the success of the bazaar. In officially .declaring the bazaar open, the Mayor (Mr D. L. Poppelwell) said that for a very long time the good sisters of the convent had carried on their work under difficulties and the time had arisen when they should be properly housed and provided with better facilities for carrying on their work. The bazaar reflected great credit on its organisers. He expressed the hope that the committee would be well rewarded. Several selections were then given by the Gore Brass Band and an enjoyable programme of music was given in the evening by Mr Inglis Todd’s orchestra. The following were the stall holders: — Forget-me-not Stall: Misses M. McGrath, M. Poppelwell, H. Egan and O’Kane (principals). assisted by Misses L. Egan, K. M. O’Neill. M. Flanagan, Columb (3), E.
