COMMITTEE MEETING. At a meeting of the Committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals there were present, Mr B. Hewat (in the chair) Mesdames von Tunzleman and Vickery and Messrs Farrant, Boyd, Gibb and Miller. Mr Forbes, of Oamaru, wrote with reference to Animal Welfare Week, and asked for this society’s support. It was decided to support the movement and a sub-com-mittee, consisting of the Rev. Collie and Messrs Miller and Farrant, was appointed to make the necessary local arrangements for the week, which will be held throughout New Zealand, from October 25 to 31. Several letters were received from kindred societies and from the Hon. J. G. Anderson and Mr de la Perrelle relating to the Hon. G. M. Thomson’s Captive Bird Shooting Bill. During the month of August the inspector visited 13 districts and investigated 11 cases of alleged cruelty. Five persons were cautioned for keeping animals without sufficient food, and two for working horses suffering from open sores. Four complaints were investigated and not sustained.
