DUNEDIN EXHIBITION
SOUTHLAND DAIRY SECTION. MEETING OF FACTORY REPRESENTATIVES. A meeting of dairy factory representatives was held in the Southland League rooms on Saturday in connection with the establishment of a Dairy Section for the Southland Court at the forthcoming New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. Eight factories were represented. The Secretary and organiser of the Southland Court (Mr J. E. Winsloe) put before the meeting the scheme that had been outlined for a dairy section. Mr Jno. Caird expressed regret at so few factories being represented. The flfoposal would be a good advertisement for the dairying industry of the province and the benefit would come afterwards. They would not have a better opportunity of advertising their produce in New Zealand for some time to come. Another of those present said that it was not that the factories were antagonistic to the proposal. They were simply slow to move. The Secretary said he had received replies from 18 factories. Fourteen factories sent favourable replies, and four were undecided yet. This meant that about onesixth had sent in definite replies. Mr R. H. Dickie (Tuturau) suggested that the Secretary visit as many dairy factory meetings as possible in the meantime, especially the bigger factories, and that a meeting be held in Dunedin in June during Show time, when the executive could be approached. The Secretary said he thought this was an excellent idea. The motion was carried unanimously, and the meeting then adjourned.
