MIXERS DOWN TOOLS

TRUCKERS EMPLOYED AS HEWERS. (Per United Press Association.) WHANGAREI, April 30. In consequence of three truckers being put on to hew coal in Alison’s mine, Hikurangi, the afternoon shift refused to turn to unless the three men were replaced by hewers out of employment. The demand was refused and 150 miners downed tools. At a meeting of the Miners’ Union last night it was decided not to work at Wilson’s colliery until a solution is obtained by a conference with the directors. It is anticipated that an adjustment will be reached soon. \
