FACTORY ROBBERIES

VICTIMS SUFFER IN SILENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright). MELBOURNE, March 4. Following a number of large factory robberies in the metropolitan area during the past few weeks the police are finding extreme difficulty in obtaining evidence on which to base a prosecution. Although a large quantity of stolen property has been seized by the police, marked reluctance has been encountered on the part of the sufferers to identify it. This is stated to be the result of a warning to factory owners that if they assist the police in their inquiries, their lives will be forfeited. The police say that at least two known gangs of thieves have established a reign of terror.
