It was stated that Ponsford, and Ryder would be playing in the last Test match in Australia, but it was expected both would be seen in the two tests in New Zealand. Mr J. S. Barrett, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, stated at to-night’s meeting that the public should be gratified to see such a fine team as the Victorian team in New Zealand. It was virtually a Victorian State eleven. He hoped New Zealanders would be able to give the visitors a good game. If New Zealand could manage to give the Victorians a really good game, it would give cricket great assistance in the Dominion. Mr Barrett said that he would like the public to understand that the management committee in arranging the Victorian tour had tried to be fair to all districts. Some of the districts might be disappointed, but the committee was asking the Victorian team to do all it possibly could do in the matter of travelling. It was hoped the disappointed districts w’culd not harass the Management Committee by making requests for a visit. The committee had done its best to .fit in a match for Nelson, which had put up such a fine record in the Hawke Cup matches, but it had been found impossible to do so. The following Selection Committee was appointed to select the New Zealand test teams:—Messrs K. Tucker (Wellington), E. R. Caygill (Canterbury), and F. Williams (Otago). TO-DAY’S MATCHES.
