For Invercargill, Morrison played an excellent innings of 17, and Fletcher also batted well for 11. West Plains replied with 45 runs, O. Lavelle being the highest scorer with 9. The match thus resulted in a win for Invercargill by 9 runs. SHEFFIELD MATCH. VICTORIA v. NEW SOUTH WALES. SYDNEY, January 28. The Sheffield Shield match was resumed in fine and hot weather on a good wicket. Victoria, in the first innings, made 502, Willis scoring 100 and Blackie 23. Willis batted brilliantly throughout. At bowling, Scott took 5 wickets for 149. New South Wales (which had made 614 in the first strike), in the second innings, made 152, Rock contributing 51 and Kippax 40. At bowling, Hartkopf took 3 wickets for 36 and Hendry 2 for 29. New South Wales collapsed in the second innings, going back to the pavilion in a procession. The batting was very dull and slow throughout, but this may have been due to excessive heat, as the city was sweltering in the throes of a heat wave.
