THE LABOUR PARTY

CAMPAIGN OPENED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 28. To-night, Mr H. E. Holland addressed a meeting which is to be the first in a series of two and a-half months’ campaign during which he will tour New Zealand from the North Cape to Bluff. The Leader of the Labour Party spoke at length on the pensions question impressing the point that the Parliamentary Labour Party fought for the various improvements and that it looked forward to the consolidation of all pensions into one, invalidity and old age pension. The housing problem was becoming a grave danger, and it seemed that it required a Labour Government to tackle it properly. Referring to the Geneva Protocol, Mr Holland contended that the people of New Zealand should have a voice in international affairs. Next election would be the country’s most important political fight, and he appealed for the unity essential to success. If Labour got an opportunity of taking the Treasury Benches it would not allow the chance to slip, but would take office and go ahead with its legislation till defeated. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed.
