The troublesome little mosquito, with his familiar heralding buzz, has been causing restless nights for some citizens during the recent hot spell (says the Wanganui Chronicle). According to one local man there are two kinds of mosquito—one that just raises a lump on the part bitten, and another that conveys poison to the limb attacked, and causes it to swell up tremendously. His theory is about correct, judging by the number of swollen hands and arms that people have been exhibiting of late and attributing to the little insect. Mosquitoes have been breeding at a great rate in the various stagnant pools in and around the city, and the City Inspector has been waging successful war upon them with kerosene.
