ANGLING

MATAURA CLUB’S COMPETITIONS. The Mataura Angler’s Club held open and novice competitions during the week- i end, but not many entries were received. ’ The weather was favourable, and all the fishing was done on the Mataura River. Three competitors weighed in for the open competition, while one weighed in for the novice event. The heaviest fish was a 6} pounder landed by Mr H. Cotterell in the vicinity of the Falk. The total catch amounted to 76 fish, 781 b weight. The Leith fly was the bait used. Particulars of the competitions follow: Open Competition, any stream, any legal bait: H. Cotterell 33 fish, 33Alb, 1; W. Allison, 33 fish, 31Alb, 2; T. Gaudion, six fish, 61b, 3. Novice Competition, any stream, any legal bait: R. Sharp, four fish, 71bs, 1.
