GORE. (From our Correspondent). Gore is suffering from a protracted spell of dry weather. The weather reports show that the total rainfall from January 1 to 8 a.m. on Saturday was only .31 of an inch. The rainfall for the corresponding period of last year amounted to 2.37 inches, nearly eight times as much. Despite the dry weather there has been less sunshine this year than last, the total to date being 180 hours 45 minutes, as against 192 hours 20 minutes for the first 23 days of 1924. DRUIDS LODGE. The second regular meeting of the Gore Druids Lodge for this year was held in the Lodge Roonvjn Friday evening, when Bro. H. Trethen £, P.D., presided over a good attendance .||.he brethren. One new member was initiated, and two others were nominated for initiation at the next meeting. The Lodge received an invitation from the Grand Lodge to be present at Invercargill on March 11. The invitation was received very heartily, and it was anticipated that at least 30 or 40 members would attend from Gore. An amount of routine business was transacted. OTAUTAU. SOCIAL NEWS. (From our Correspondent). Misses Isobel and Masie Anderson, Levin, former residents of Otautau, are at present on a visit to friends. They left for Riverton on Wednesday prior to returning home. After spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs M. Coulter, Hulme street, Mr and Mrs Nelson, Addington, Christchurch, have returned home. Mrs Osborn, Glenavy, Canterbury, left for home last week, after spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs J. N. Brown. Mr W. J. Wesney left on an extended trip, which will include the West Coast, on Monday. Mrs Wesney is at present on a visit to Invercargill, and is the gdest of Mrs Meredith, Gladstone. Mr J. P. Fisher motored to Invercargill on Sunday in order to proceed by Monday’s express to Auckland. Miss I. Macpherson was the guest of Mr and Mrs A. C. Rowe for a few days during the week. Mr John Gray, who until recently was organiser of country schools for Southland and previously headmaster at Nightcaps School, spent a few days with Mr and Mrs Hall last week. Dr. and Mrs Booth and Miss Harrison, Port Chalmers, paid a visit to the township during the week. Mrs Jas. Price and daughter, Gladstone, Invercargill, .visited Mr and Mrs J. R. McDougall, “Garfield,” for a few days. Miss Lennon, Edenadel, is at present the guest of Mrs M. Campbell, Lieman street. Miss Brockenshire, Invercargill, spent the week-end in Otautau. On Sunday evening she rendered a solo at the evening service in the Methodist Church, which was much appreciated. Mrs H. Lang and family spent a day at Riverton on Wednesday. Mrs Waddell and son, Kennington, spent the week with Mrs Hope, Chester street. Miss K. Harrington is at present the guest of Mr and Mrs J. H. Thomas, Invercargill. Miss Bisset, Invercargill, paid a visit to Mr and Mrs Frank Duncan, Rye street, during the week.
