SYDNEY HARBOR BRIDGE

WRITS FOR LIBEL ISSUED. REFERRED TO CROWN SOLICITOR. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright). SYDNEY, January 24. Both the Minister of Works and of Railways and the Under-Secretary to the Department have received writs for libel, issued by one of the unsuccessful tenderers for the Sydney Harbour bridge. The papers have been referred to the Crown solicitor with a view to defending the action. A previous message received on November 16 stated that it is announced that Sir W. Arrol and Co. have issued a writ claiming damages against Mr R. T. Ball (Minister of Works), Mr Cooper (Undersecretary for Works), and Dr Bradfield (engineer-designer of the North Shore bridge), in respect to alleged libel contained in a report by Dr Bradfield to the Minister bearing upon the steel which Sir W. Arrol and Co. proponed to use in the construction of the bridge. It is unofficially stated that the damages claimed amount to £30,000.
