DUNEDIN WOOL SALES

LAST NIGHT’S AUCTIONS. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, January 23. The second of the series of Dunedin wool sales for the present season was commenced at 8 o’clock this evening. There is a total catalogue of 18,065 bales to be offered, and of this quantity 4580 were offered by three selling agents. The buyers were stronger numerically than in the December sales held here. Bradford was again the mainstay throughout and operated in all classes. Continental buyers were mainly interested in low and medium wools. The sale opened {somewhat slow but brightened before fifty lots had been disposed of and at the close bidding was quite keen. The first catalogue offered consisted of 2308 bales and of these 110 were passed in. As regards prices there was little difference as compared with the December sale except in the case of wasty and heavy conditioned Merinos which depreciated slightly in value and fine halfbreds sold at quite up to last sale’s prices, supers selling at from 30d to 32d, inferior 25d to Merinos were irregular and shabbier kinds were not keenly sought after. Crossbreds were somewhat slow of sale and prices were a little erratic at —super crossbreds 28d to 29d, second quality 25Ad to 26|d. Bellies and pieces were well competed for and sold at late rates. Halfbred pieces brought up to 25Jd, Merino pieces to 24j|d, and crossbred pieces as high at 23{d.
