BATTLE OF JUTLAND
CONTROVERSY RENEWED. MENTIONED IN THE LAW . COURTS. INTERESTING DEVELOPMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 20. The vexed question of the Battle of Jutland has cropped up in the law Courts. Mr Filson Young (a well-known journalist and author) is bringing an action in the Chancery Division to restrain Admiral Sir Reginald Bacon and his publishers (Hutchinson and Co.) from publishing any copy of Admiral Bacon’s book on the Jutland scandal, which the plaintiff alleged infringed his copyright. Counsel for the defendants asked that the motion should stand over by a few days owing to Admiral Bacon’s absence from England, and Mr Justice Astbury assented to this course. The plaintiff’s counsel said that Mr Filson Young wrote an article in a Sunday newspaper expressing the opinion that Lord Beatty’s tactics at Jutland were preferable to those of Lord Jellicoe. Admiral Bacon reprinted the whole of the article in his book with his own comments on it. Counsel argued that this was infringement of the copyright, and that plaintiff had thereby suffered damage, as the value of the article had not expired.
