COUNCIL MEETING. (From our Correspondent). The first meeting of the Gore Borough ! Council for 1925 was held on Monday • evening, his Worship the Mayor (Mr D. L. i Poppelwell) presiding. L. R. McDonald, secretary, Gore Golf Club, wrote agreeing to the conditions embodied in the lease of the East Gore Do- : main for a period of seven years, but re- ; quested that the clause: “The Golf Club , to spend £25 on improvements each year” be altered to read: “on maintenance each year.”—Received ; suggestion agreed to. E. A. Pigeon, Ardwick street, asked the Council to remove the broom growing on the old cetnetery reserve (on which the pub lie baths stand) before seeding time. —Request granted. The County Clerk, Ellesmere County, forwarded particulars of a road-roller which was for sale.—Received. The Public Works Department forward- , ed a copy of the proposed regulations as to ' the use of motor-lorries in accordance with ] the provisions of the Public Works Act, | 1924.—Referred to Finance Committee for : report. The secretary of the Southland League j asked to be supplied with an approximate i computation of the space required by Gore exhibitors in the Southland Court at the ; Dunedin Exhibition.—Referred to the Fin- I ance Committee. j W. F. de Roo, Inspector of Health, ad- j vised that he would proceed on annual leave on January 17. During his absence any urgent work would be attended to by In- | spector Terry, of Invercargill.—Received. I J. H. Crawshaw, Medical Officer of ! Health, approved of the latest Borough Bylaws. —Received. Smith and Dolamore forwarded a transfer from Parker to Shannon, and also a mortgage from Shannon to Parker for the consent of the Council.—Granted. D. McDougall, East Gore, asked if the Council intended to issue a balance-sheet for the year ended March 31, 1924, and, if ! so, when? They were now in the tenth : month of the second year, and no balance- | sheet had yet been issued. “As his Wor- ; ship promised that if he were returned as • Mayor he would see that the balance-sheet ; was issued promptly. I ask your Council ] to fulfil that promise.”—Received; the ; writer to be informed that the balance-sheet had been prepared for several months, and had been awaiting the auditor’s certifi- ; cate. G. Peterson asked that the foreman inspect the footpath in front of his new building in Main street, this having be- : come uneven during the building operations.—Referred to the Works Committee. Applications for electric light connections were granted to the following on the usual terms:—H. A. Hili (High street), D. S. Mackenzie (Medway street), E. A. Pigeon (Ardwick street), and R. S. Tunnage (Main ; street). —Reports.— W. Scott, electrical engineer, reported that i the telephone line to the Fire Brigade Sta- : tion had been extended and the telephone ■ installed. 'The telephone at the power- | house was now being installed. The water I gauge at the power station had been fitted. ■ —Received. I P. Kelly, pound-keeper, reported that ! 1384 sheen and 315 cattle passed through the saleyards during December. Three cows and three horses were impounded.— Received. W. C. Moore, abattoir manager, reported that during December 113 cattle, 239 sheep, 125 lambs, 4 pigs and 3 calves were killed at the abattoir. One cow was condemned. —Received.
