Corinthic, Timaru, Friday. Whangape, Oamaru, January 28. Calm, Dunedin, January 28. GENERAL NOTES. The Wingatui sailed last evening for Auckland, via Dunedin and way ports. The Corinthic is expected to sail about Friday for Timaru to continue her Homeward loading. The Karetu is to leave Sydney to-day or to-morrow for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Oamaru and Bluff. She then returns to Sydney. The Kahika is expected to-morrow morning from Greymouth with coal, and after discharge will sail for Dunedin in the afternoon. The Port Melbourne, from New York via Wellington, is now at Lyttelton and later comes to Bluff via Dunedin. She is due here on Tuesday next, to load frozen meat, dairy produce and general cargo for London. The Whangape left Newcastle yesterday with coal for Bluff and Oamaru. She is due here on Monday and will sail about Wednesday for Oamaru. The Calm is due at Bluff on Wednesday next with cargo from Lyttelton, and is to sail the same day for Dunedin and northern ports. Cargo for Bluff from the East will be discharged at Dunedin on Friday next by the Sussex, from Calcutta and Singapore, and should reach here about the end of the month by the Karetu. THE ORETH. It is expected that the Oreti will leave Dunedin to-day for Invercargill with general cargo. She is due to-morrow and sails on Friday for Port Craig, thence Dunedin again. MANUKA FROM MELBOURNE. WILL BERTH AT BLUFF TO-NIGHT. A radio was yesterday afternoon received from the Master of the Union liner Manuka stating that he would arrive at Bluff this evening from Melbourne. If the Manuka arrives in time to berth on the low tide at 5 p.m. she will sail for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Melbourne at 11.30 p.m., but should she not arrive until later, it will not be possible to berth her until high slack water, about 11 p.m. In that case she will not sail for Dunedin until 11.30 a.m. to-morrow. Company has resumed the fortnightly mail service between England and Australia. Some of the company’s vessels will call at Algiers and Port Sudan instead of Marseilles in the future. • DURBAN’S BIG DOCK. BIGGEST IN SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE. CAPETOWN, January 19. Hie outer caisson of the Durban graving dock, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, has been placed in position, and the dock pumped dry. Everything is satisfactory. The dock is intended purely for mercantile purposes. The dimensions are: Length 1150 ft, breadth at entrance 110 ft, depth 41ft. SHIPWRECKED CREW SAFE. A STRENUOUS PULL CAPETOWN, January 19. The shipwrecked crew of the vessel Erivan arrived to-day. She struck an uncharted rock on the night of December 31, which made a hole in her hull. The weather waa favourable, and after five hours’ pulling they reached Swain Island, where they killed a seal and made a fire from blubber. Afterwards they pulled seventeen miles to Howe Island, where the

steamer Kolfenora was lying. Two days later there was a terrific storm. The crew are Norwegians. The Erivan had a crew of twenty-five. Capetown reported on December 31 that the steamer Diogenes bad picked up an S.O.S. signal on December 30 saying:— “We are sinking. Report ‘Trawler/ Capetown.” This is the telegraphic address of Irwin and Johnson, who believed that the message had emanated from the Norwegian steamer Erivan, which despatched a wireless message on December 27 from Kerguelen stating that she was sailing for Capetown on December 27 with 10,000 barrels of oil.
