BURMA
"CINDERELLA OF INDIA.” WANTS HOME RULE. (Sun Special). LONDON, November 1. Discussing the Home Rule movement in Burma, the correspondent of the Times at Rangoon says that the belief is general that India has persistently neglected Burmese interests, and Burma remains the Cinderella of the Indian Empire. Her economic affairs are far behind those of the leading Indian provinces, and are likely to remain so for many years to come, unless Burma is permitted to spend her surplus revenue on her own well-being instead of being compelled to send a big slice of it to India. “Burma for the Burmese,” the correspondent says, “is now the slogan.” He adds: “There is no doubt that the people of Burma, including many Europeans, are by no means pleased with the method of governing Burma from the hilltop at Simla, and there is a strong feeling that separation from India is inevitable in the not very distant future.”
