THE SECOND DAY SOUTHLAND BREEDERS SUCCESSFUL THE PRIZE LIST. (Our Special Reporter); PALMERSTORN NORTH, November 5. The continuance of fine weather attracted another large attendance to the Royal Show to-day. The judging of the live stock was commenced this morning. The gate receipts yesterday showed a gratifying increase over those for the corresponding Show last year, the takings being a little in excess of £B6, just double first day’s takings of the 1923 fixture, when £43 was recorded. At noon the Show was officially opened by Lord Jellicoe, who, with Lady Jellicoe, was welcomed by a large gathering. Speeches were delivered by Mr W. Perry, President of the Royal Agricultural Society, Hon. W. Nosworthy and Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., President of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Occasion was taken to farewell His Excellency, who was presented with an address from the Manawatu A. and P. Association. Lord Jellicoe was also presented with a life membership badge of the Royal Society. In a speech of acknowledgement, the Governor-General stressed the value of the Royal Show, remarking that it would result in further increasing the high standards of New Zealand stock. In the sheep classes, Southland exhibitors swept the board in the Border Leicesters. In the wool section, Southland awards are:— Ram, 18 months or under—R. Anderson (Kauana) 1 and reserve champion, and very highly commended, P. Johnston (Gore) 2. Two Rams, 18 months and over—G. P. Johnston 1, R. Anderson 2. Ram, over 18 months and under 42 months—G. P. Johnston 1 and champion. Ewe, 18 months or under—R. Anderson 1 and champion and 2, G. P. Johnston 3. Two Ewes, 18 months or under—G. P. Johnston 1, R. Anderson 2. CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS.
