MYSTICAL SEVEN.

(By a Society Seer.) Seven is the recognised mystic number of occult science, in every religion, seven plays an important part. Ever since God created the world in seven days, this number has been the holy figure, and the symbol of Godly perfection. For example there are seven Archangels—Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Zadkiel, Uriel, Chamuel, and Zophiel, seven virtues, seven Christian sacraments, seven heavens, and seven champions of Christendom, namely the patron saints of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Spain and Italy. Again, we have the seven sayings of Christ from the Cross, the seven joys and seven sorrows of Mary, and, of course, every Christian has read the Seven Churches in the book of Revelation, the seven golden candlesticks before the Heavenly Throne which St. John saw in his vision, and of the seven wise and seven foolish virgins. It would be possible to fill a column with details of the way in which this figure occurs again and again in religion and mythology. MYSTIC CATHEDRAL. A striking example is to be found in the manner in which the builders of Cologne Cathedral have worked the mystical seven into this structure. All the entrances have seven niches, seven chapels encircle the choir, whilst in the various measurements of the Cathedral, its pillars and ornaments, the figure seven will be found. There is also no measurement which cannot be evenly divided by seven. This repetition is a striking example of the reverence with which seven was held in the early ages. THE PHYSIC SONS. The seventh son of a seventh son has always been considered clever, lucky and endowed with psychic gifts. These men usually are very successful as revealers of fate, so much so, that many imposters for “a seventh son of a seventh son.” lucrative reasons describe themselves as Those who are genuine, of course, are frequently gifted with second sight, and from an early age begin to see things with the “minds eye” and exhibit uncanny abilities. On the other hand such men are generally delicate, and hyper-sensitive with a tendency to suffer from nervous complaints. As for seventh daughters of seventh daughters nothing is reputed of them. Why this should be so, is difficult to understand.
