THE PTOMAINE POISONING.
In the report cabled to New Zealand regarding the All Blacks’s match against Cheshire, it was stated that Hart scored two tries, and Porter and Steel one each. The name of the player scoring the other two tries was omitted. From a special report cabled io the Sydney Referee, it appears that Hart was the scorer of these tries. The report also gives more details regarding the ptomaine poisoning which had taken place. Following is an extract: LONDON, October 13. The New Zealanders defeated Cheshire, •t Birkenhead, on Saturday, 18 to 5, it being their eighth match and win. Fifteen of the players were suffering from ptomaine poisoning prior to the match, but the trouble was only temporary. The team arrived at Liverpool apparently all well, but although medical aid was unnecessary, several changes in the personnel were made. There were 12,000 spectators. The New’ Zealanders’ superiority w r as most pronounced in the backs, but their play generally was the poorest to date. The sides secured equal possession of the ball from the scrums. Cheshire played a hard, spoiling game, but their loose passing offered many opportunities to the New Zealanders to intercept and attack. Hart scored four tries, and Porter and Steel one each. Cheshire scored a try and goal. Parker, Lucas and Badeley suffered from ptomaine poisoning more severely than the others, and were not üble to play in this match.
